A team of over 700 automotive specialists were involved in the creation of our Bentley Continental Supersports.
The Continental Supersports delivers uncompromised supercar performance and the most thrilling driving experience imaginable.
At the heart of our dedicated engineering team is Bentley Chief Engineer, Dr Ulrich Eichhorn, whose passion, vision and automotive experience led the team to create the Continental Supersports.
“Bentley has the largest engineering centre in the whole of the United Kingdom,” Dr Eichhorn explains. “As you would expect of such a diverse and experienced team, we are also proud to have specialists to push the boundaries of automotive development; specialists who are only limited by their own imagination of what can be achieved.
“The Supersports is the car I am definitely most proud of being associated with. It’s the most sporty Bentley ever but also the greenest. Its refinement is extraordinary and it has unbelievable acceleration.”
Right gear for power
Dr Eichhorn’s team left no stone unturned in its desire to create the most powerful Bentley of all time.
“Our desire was to bring more fun for the drivers of our Supersports,” said Dr Eichhorn.
“One of the first tasks to achieve this was the recalibration of the Speed gearbox, giving more power to the rear wheels. The Supersports handles like a supercar thanks to its lowered suspension, wider rear track and advanced all-wheel drive system which has a 40:60 rear-biased power delivery. More power to the rear makes the car much more balanced during hard cornering, which in turn means more fun for the experienced driver".
“We have also introduced double down shifts in one step, which again delivers a huge advantage for the driver in search of more power.”
Fuelled for the future
The Continental Supersports is the first ever FlexFuel Bentley, with the capability of running seamlessly on ethanol, petrol or any mix of the two – all from a single fuel tank.
Dr Eichhorn explains: “This car can cut CO2 by some 70 per cent and is better than any hybrid or electric car. Our innovative fuel sensor always picks up the mix of fuel, be it petrol or ethanol, and sorts the engine accordingly.”
The engineering team was determined to deliver a driver’s car, one that the driver can interact with and control. Dr Eichhorn said: “We didn’t want a sports car that is governed by a nanny Electronic Stability Programme. Our advanced ESP operates in unison with the all-wheel drive, with a new dynamic setting that moderates ESP intervention at low speeds, providing a greater degree of driver interaction and control. This allows the more experienced and spirited driver a greater sense of control and the ability to exploit the full potential of our incredible new engine.”
Dr Eichhorn believes the team has created an automotive masterpiece in the new Continental Supersports. “If you want to have a real blast or simply drive yourself across Europe, this is the car for you,” concluded Dr Eichhorn.
“It’s a joy to drive, even when not driven hard and is easily a car that can be driven every day, thanks to its surefootedness, even in the wet. You can go 0-60 in 3.7 seconds in the dry and 0-60 in 3.8 seconds when it’s wet – this is more akin to a superbike than a supercar!
“This is definitely a car that will make supercar lovers think twice about Bentley.”
